Delivering Friendship: Mark & Billie’s Story

When Mark Evans, 28, decided to volunteer for Meals on Wheels and More two years ago, he didn’t anticipate making new friends. “I did it just wanting to do something to help,” he said. “So this was kind of unexpected.”  The “this” that Mark refers to is his new-found friendship with 78-year-old Billie Herring, who has been on his meal delivery route from the very beginning…

During this week’s severe heat wave, Meals on Wheels and More is asking members of the Austin community to please be vigilant of their elderly neighbors.  If you know of someone who is elderly, homebound, or has mobility or health problems, please consider checking in on them to make sure they are staying safe, cool and hydrated…
