Meals on Wheels and More delivers approximately 500 meals on Thanksgiving Day

Austin, TX -- With the help of several dozen volunteers and the generous sponsorshipp of HEB, Meals on Wheels and More prepared and delivered approximately 500 holiday meals to the homebound and disabled this past Thanksgiving Day.

This marks the second year that Meals on Wheels and More has overseen the preparation and delivery of these meals, which are cooked and packaged at our headquarters in East Austin. The service was offered to our 1,300 clients living in Central Austin. Meal preparations began before 7 a.m. and volunteers arrived to pick up meals around 10 a.m. Volunteers serviced 50 routes throughout Central Austin.

In 2006, Meals on Wheels and More assumed complete responsibility of this program, which was previously facilitated through a partnership with the Salvation Army. Last year, we served 450 clients on Thanksgiving and 350 clients on Christmas Day.

The Meals on Wheels and More holiday meal delivery is unique because we are the only organization in Austin that delivers hot meals to the front doors of the needy in our community. It's also a time when we see many new volunteers come out to lend a hand. Meals on Wheels and More is proud to offer this service to our clients, and we are grateful to the Austin community, our dedicated volunteers, and our bighearted sponsor HEB.
