When Robin and I first met, we hit it off immediately. She has a great sense of humor, even though her circumstances are rather grim. I have delivered Meals on Wheels for almost 15 years, so when they really needed Groceries to Go volunteers, they contacted all of us asking if we could help or knew someone who could help. My son was 12 or 13 at the time, so didn’t need constant supervision, and I just knew I was supposed to do this. guest post by Groceries to Go volunteer Susan Daugherty

April is National Volunteer Month, and what better time to recognize the thousands of Meals on Wheels volunteers who graciously donate their time and talent to help those in need.

The Greek moralist, Aesop, wrote “no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”. More than 2,500 years later, those words still ring true, and our 6500+ Meals on Wheels and More volunteers are proof of that! Whether they are delivering nutritious meals, being a phone pal for a homebound client, performing minor repair jobs in a client’s home, or providing any of the other services we offer, our amazing volunteers make a big difference in the lives of the wonderful people we serve. posted by Theresa Medlin VP for Volunteer Services & Distribution

Dear Friends,

I was on my way into work recently and the Beatles’ “Help” came on the radio.

Now, I’ve heard that song hundreds of times before, but for some reason that particular morning it suddenly hit me that John Lennon could have easily been singing about the wonderful people we serve.

The gift Meals on Wheels client Lloyd Jackson craves most this holiday season is the same one he’s wanted every year for the past decade. And every year he’s gotten exactly what he wants – a good stable home life for his 11 year old great-grandson, Kevon Walton, whom Lloyd, and his wife, Bertha, have raised since the boy was a year old. Raising a child can be challenging even under the best of circumstances, but Lloyd and Bertha Jackson faces obstacles that many parents don’t. - posted by Thad Rosenfeld Director of Commuinications Meals on Wheels and More
